In May 2016, I will graduate from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I chose nursing because I have a passion for making a difference in the lives of others.

I have always had an interest in the medical field and wanted a career that allowed me to help others. When my grandmother was very sick in the hospital, I was inspired by how the nurses treated her like she was their own family member and always showed her respect and compassion. They were always looking for ways to make her feel at home and spent time getting to know her throughout her stay in the hospital. The nurses showed my family kindness during a difficult time, and that has always stuck with me. At that point I knew that I wanted to pursue nursing so that I could also care for others during illness and times of need.

Auburn School of Nursing has prepared me for the many challenges I may face as a nurse. My nursing curriculum has been focused on patient-centered care, critical thinking skills, and scientific knowledge. While I have gained a multitude of knowledge from academics, I believe that the most valuable lessons I have learned have come from my interactions with   patients. Many of the patients I've met have shown me that when experiencing hardships, kindness and compassion go a long way.

After I graduate, I plan to work in critical care. I believe that critical care will help me to gain a strong foundation as a registered nurse and a future nurse practitioner. I am grateful for my education at Auburn and I am looking forward to beginning my career as a nurse!
